Burke P. Derr was a 19 year-old young man that passed away from Cystic Fibrosis. He was an avid Boyd's Bear collector and had around 150 in the collection. He had received an order of Boyd's Bears a week before he passed away. They named one after him: "The Burke P. Bear". His family is very supportive on finding a cure for CF. They have created a "Million Dollar Campaign" to raise $1,000,000.00 by the time that Burke would have graduated from college (Spring 2000).

Billy Cook heard the story and asked for a Burke Bear for Christmas. He also wanted to be a host for the original bear which travels from place to place. The original Burke Bear made a stop at The BC Bash on September 12 at The Kahuna Fundraiser. To order your own Burke Bear -email kjleven@aol.com today.
